What documents do you need to get your business account set up with Starling Bank?

You can easily open a Starling Bank business account regardless of whether you are a limited company or sole trader. To set up the account, you will only need documents that verify your identity and the nature of your business. 

Documents to verify your identity 

You will need at least one of the following documents to verify your identity: 

  • EU/EEA ID card 
  • Passport 
  • UK photo driving license (full or provisional) 
  • UK Residence Card 

Documents to prove the nature of your business 

To confirm the nature of your business, the Starling Bank staff will ask you for one or more of the following documents: 

  • Bank statements 
  • A decision in Principle / Lender documentation 
  • Lease agreement 
  • License 
  • Payslips 
  • Proof of membership (for example, to a trade or industry body) 
  • Proof of property ownership / Land Registry documents 
  • Qualifications/registrations 
  • Signed agreements/contracts (dated and signed) 

Sometimes the Starling Bank team may contact you to request other unmentioned documents specific to your type of business. 

What else will you need to apply for a bank account online? 

To apply, you will also need: 

  • A smartphone and signal. 
  • A selfie video to verify your identity. 
  • A few minutes of your time- The application is straightforward and takes less time if you have documents that confirm the nature of your business. 

As a business owner, freelancer, or contractor – you can apply for a Starling business account by downloading the app onto your smartphone and following the on-screen instructions. You can download the Starling app on the Apple Store, Google Play Store and Huawei Store.
